Fact-checked by Adam Kennah, M.D. on . See our fact-checking policy.

John Berg, Pharm.D., is a U.S.-licensed pharmacist serving as Clinical Reviewer (Pharmacy) at GLPOneReview. Dr. Berg reviews all pharmacy-related claims, dosing accuracy, and the 503A/503B classification details we publish.

Role

Pharmacy claims are a high-risk category. Compounded medications are dispensed by either a 503A traditional compounding pharmacy or a 503B FDA-registered outsourcing facility, each with different rules, oversight, and quality standards. Provider claims about their pharmacy partners are frequently inaccurate, ambiguous, or out of date. Dr. Berg's role is to verify every published pharmacy claim against the named pharmacy's state license, FDA registration (for 503B), and current operating status.

What he reviews

  • Provider pages: Pharmacy partner names, classifications (503A vs 503B), USP <797>, <800>, and <85> standards claims, third-party testing claims.
  • Medication pages: Dosing tables, titration schedules, drug interactions, storage requirements.
  • The 503A vs 503B guide: Regulatory accuracy, especially during periods of FDA shortage-list changes.
  • Drug interactions page: Every interaction we publish is verified against current pharmacology references.

Background

Dr. Berg holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and maintains active state pharmacist licensure. His clinical interest is in ambulatory care pharmacy, with focused experience in cardiometabolic medications and the federal compounding regulatory framework (Sections 503A and 503B of the FD&C Act).

Independence

Dr. Berg does not have any compensated relationship with the pharmacies he reviews. He does not accept honoraria, gifts, or travel from any provider or pharmacy. His role at GLPOneReview is an editorial review role, not a sales or marketing role.
